Titanium vs G10 Knife Handles: Which Is Better for EDC?

Titanium vs G10 Knife Handles: Which Is Better for EDC?

When choosing an EDC knife, blade steel gets a lot of attention, but the handle material can make just as much difference in everyday use.

At HomerSteel, we pay close attention to how a knife feels in the hand and carries in the pocket. Two of the most common handle materials you'll see in modern EDC knives are titanium and G10. Both are durable and lightweight, but they offer very different experiences.

So what's the difference, and which one is right for you?

Titanium vs G10: A Quick Comparison

Why Choose Titanium?

Titanium is popular in premium EDC knives for a reason.

It offers an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, strong corrosion resistance, and a solid metallic feel without adding excessive weight.

6AL4V titanium, also known as Grade 5 titanium, is especially common in quality folding knives. It can also be precision-machined and finished in different ways, giving knife designers more control over texture, ergonomics, and appearance.

That's why we chose 6AL4V titanium for the HomerSteel Varex 101.

The goal was to create a knife that feels solid in the hand while remaining comfortable for everyday carry. Even with a full titanium handle and titanium deep-carry pocket clip, the Varex 101 weighs approximately 3.53 oz (100 g).

Why Choose G10?

G10 takes a different approach.

Made from fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin, it's extremely lightweight, durable, and resistant to moisture. It can also be machined with aggressive surface textures, giving it excellent grip.

For outdoor use, work knives, or anyone who prioritizes maximum traction and low weight, G10 is a great choice.

It's also generally less expensive than titanium and available in a much wider range of colors.

Which Is Better for EDC?

It really comes down to what you want from your knife.

If you prioritize grip, low weight, and value, G10 makes a lot of sense.

If you prefer a solid feel, corrosion resistance, precision machining, and a more refined finish, titanium may be worth the extra cost.

At HomerSteel, we chose titanium for the Varex 101 because we wanted it to balance everyday practicality with the feel of a precision-machined EDC knife. Paired with a 3.07-inch Sandvik 14C28N blade, Crossbar Lock, and bronze washers, the titanium handle is part of what gives the Varex 101 its character.

Final Thoughts

There's no universal winner in the titanium vs G10 debate.

G10 is lightweight, grippy, practical, and affordable. Titanium offers excellent corrosion resistance, strength, and a distinctive feel that many EDC enthusiasts appreciate.

For us at HomerSteel, titanium was the right choice for the Varex 101. But ultimately, the best handle material is the one that fits how you carry and use your knife.
